Not
so long ago, Belfast's historic Shankill was one of the City's
most popular shopping areas. It was thriving and was a hive
of commercial activity every day of the week. Small, specialist
shops flourished and the entire area was renowned for good
value, variety and a friendly welcome.
Sadly
though, over the years and for a variety of reasons, the area's
former prominence as a major shopping attraction has diminished.
Out of town shopping centres, greater social mobility and
major changes in the demographics of the area all contributed
to this decline. But
in spite of these changes, many of the small, specialist neighbourhood
shops have survived and many groups are already working to
restore the area to it's former prominence as a shopping mecca
with a unique atmosphere and blend of shops and services.
These
Shankill Sessions have been devised to help businesses in
the area become more competitive, attractive and more profitable.
In time, this will increase employment, stimulate economic
activity in the district and attract many first time visitors
and tourists to the Shankill.
The Sessions
are free of charge to Shankill based businesses who can send
a maximum of two people.
In you
are involved in a retail or service business, you'd be advised
NOT to miss these "Sharpen Your Skills" sessions - We'll guarantee
to make it worth your while!
